January 2021 National Lockdown

At 8pm Monday 4 January, the Prime Minister announced an immediate return to full lockdown, including all schools, for at least the first half of term. We are all utterly heart-broken that we must return to remote teaching and learning for this half term. However, with the support of our parents, pupils’ resilience, and the wonderful talent and professionalism of our colleagues we are confident that we can once again provide a superb educational experience for the pupils at KES.

During the course of the lockdown in Spring and Summer, it was a genuine pleasure to receive so much correspondence from our parents expressing their satisfaction and delight with the provision we were able to put in place for their children. For the first half of the Spring Term, we intend once again to offer the same variety and richness of educational experience. We have the advantage now of knowing how best to adapt to these difficult circumstances, and our teaching staff are exceptionally experienced in delivering high-quality remote content.

Parents and pupils have received communication from our Head, Mr Parker, on the specific arrangements and provision during this time. This will be available via The Bulletin.

In short, we are offering pupils full face to face academic programmes across all subjects. We are providing on-site provision for children of critical workers. Our assemblies will once again be shared digitally on a weekly basis. We are retaining weekly tutor sessions for all pupils, so that they can ‘keep in touch’ with tutors and classmates. And lastly, we are working on how to provide wider co-curriculum activities to all pupils.

COVID-19 Positive Cases

During November, we have unfortunately had a small number of positive COVID-19 cases at King Edward’s. While one year group has had to self-isolate for two weeks, we have managed to minimise this to only a handful of close contacts having to isolate for the majority of the cases.

We are working in close communications with our pupils and families to ensure the safety of our students and minimise transmission of COVID wherever possible.

Throughout this difficult period, we have ensured that the school is fulfilling and exceeding Government directives and guidance. We will continue to make sure that we adhere to the best possible practice.

We take this opportunity to remind you of the guidance surrounding COVID-19, including what to do if your child develops symptoms, which can be found on the NHS website here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/.

Tours & Visiting Us

In light of the lockdown, we are sadly unable to offer any tours or open events. For families and students that are interested in joining us in, we invite you to explore our school and facilities virtually with our 360 tour. If you have any questions about King Edward’s and admissions, please don’t hesitate to email Mrs Sheppard at registrar@kes.hants.sch.uk.

You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, where we regularly post updates about the school.
