Sports Scholar Talk: Liam McGarry
Liam McGarry, number 1 Para-Powerlifter in Great Britain and 7th in the World, visits King Edward’s Sports Scholars.
On Monday night, our Sports Scholars attended an inspiring talk from Liam McGarry.
At the age of 20, Liam was a keen semi-pro rugby player, until a life-changing spinal cord injury in 2017 forced him to change his outlook on life.
Fast forward three years, he is now on the road to Paralympics in Paris 2024 aged just 24. Liam is currently number 1 in Great Britain and 7th in the World with his eyes firmly set on medalling at the upcoming World Championships, Commonwealth Games and ultimately the Paralympics.
Liam spoke about his journey, how our students should never choose the easy option and with great adaptability and resilience, anything is possible. He ended with encouraging our students to adopt a ‘mind over matter’ approach to all aspects of their lives, including sport.
A massive thank you to Liam for coming to speak with our Sports Scholars and we wish you the best of luck at the World Championships in Georgia next week!
