King Edward’s Welcomes New Headmaster

‘It is such a privilege to have been asked to become the next Head of King Edward VI School. What struck me when I visited the schools is that whilst the pupils and staff are dedicated to the highest academic standards, equally there is a real sense of community and a pride in the schools’ values. I am absolutely committed to providing the pupils not only with outstanding classroom experiences, but also with the opportunities to develop their interests and form friendships to last a lifetime. I am excited by the prospect of joining this wonderful school in September 2019, and building upon the impressive legacy from Julian Thould’s exceptional 17 years as Head’.

We will be welcoming Neal Parker as our new Headmaster in September 2019 as Julian Thould retires this summer.

Neal has been the Vice Principal and Head of the Senior School at The Grammar School at Leeds, a co-ed independent 3-18 day school, since 2016, after joining the school as Senior Deputy Head in 2012. Previously, Neal was Director of Music and Head of Performing Arts at the Newcastle Royal Grammar School, having started his teaching career at King’s College School in Wimbledon.

Educated at The British School in The Netherlands and The Purcell School of Music, Neal read Music at St Anne’s College, Oxford, holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from Newcastle University, and is currently studying for an MBA. He is a long-standing ISI inspector and current member of the Board of Directors at Leeds College of Music.

Neal is married to Sarah, a Deputy Head at Harrogate Ladies’ College, and they have one son, Joe. As well as his passion for music in all its many forms, Neal is an avid sports fan and lover of the outdoors, particularly enjoying hiking in the Lake District.
