School for Surgery

Six Lower Sixth Form prospective medics attended the School for Surgery day at Portsmouth Hospital on 28th June.  Over the course of the day, they learnt how to resuscitate a patient, practised keyhole surgery, sutured wounds, put needles into veins, intubated a patient for anaesthesia, analysed X-rays, MRI and CT scans, drained an abscess under ultrasound and learnt how to diagnose common breathing problems.  All students had a great day and felt they developed many new skills and gained very useful material for their personal statements and medical interviews.
