The toughest UK swimming challenge!

Well done to Mr Blow who took part in Red Bull’s ‘Neptune’s Steps’ open water swimming event this weekend dubbed the toughest open water swimming competition in the UK.
The temperature of the Forth and Clyde canal in Glasgow, after last week’s snowfall, was hovering around 3 degrees and there were several twists to the relatively short 420 m course; the first of which was an 18 metre height gain that could only be achieved by scaling the 7 locks via ropes, ladders and a climbing wall. The second twist Red Bull had in store was a knockout format with heats of up to 40 competitors swimming, working their way towards a semi-final, then final. Mr Blow narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals finishing 6th with only the top five progressing. With several Olympians and a Commonwealth champion amongst the field, Mr Blow bowed out gratefully and was only too happy not to have to put on his cold wetsuit and get back in the freezing water again!
