CERN 2018

Last weekend a group of Lower Sixth physicists travelled to Geneva to visit CERN – the world’s largest particle accelerator.  Here they combined lab sessions, during which they built their own cloud chambers, and observed alpha particle trails and muon trails arising from cosmic rays, with visiting exhibitions and  the facility.  They also made a trip to the control centre for the cosmic ray detector on board the International Space Station and were able to see see live footage of a spacewalk.
