Why languages matter!
On February 17th, nine members of the Lower Sixth went to the University of Southampton to attend the ‘Why Languages Matter’ conference; soon to be an annual event. The day was engaging for the students and Mr Ayers and Mrs Brown enjoyed themselves too! They listened to a range of lectures from feminism and the media to the impacts of globalisation, and enjoyed the opportunity to experience the university atmosphere and to gain insight into what constitutes a languages course. The day also provided time to discuss potential careers and how the ability to speak a second language is advantageous.
