The governors of King Edward VI School, Southampton are delighted to announce the acquisition of Stroud School, Romsey. Both schools see this as an opportunity to enhance the education of children between the ages of 3 and 18 years. There is a long-standing relationship between the schools and many Stroud pupils have moved to King Edward’s with great success, reflecting their shared values and ethos.
School life at Stroud, now to be known as ‘Stroud, the King Edward VI Preparatory School’, will continue as normal for the children, staff and wider community under the successful leadership of Alastair Dodds, Judy Gregory and their management team.
King Edward’s aims to continue and deepen its existing links with other Hampshire preparatory schools. The intention of the governors is for business to continue as normal in relationships with all schools with long-established connections with King Edward VI School.
The Chairman of Governors of King Edward’s, Mr Brian Gay, said:

Over the years hundreds of pupils have proceeded from the one school to the other with great success reflecting the values shared between the two institutions.”

King Edward VI School is an 11 – 18 HMC independent co-educational day school. It has been educating children in and around the city for over 450 years. It is a top performing academic school with a wide range of co-curricular opportunities on offer to its students.
Stroud School is a flourishing co-educational preparatory school. In its 2011 ISI Inspection report the team identified that “[Stroud School] fulfils its aim to promote an education of the highest quality”. It was founded in 1926 by F E Woodall as a proprietor-owned school. It has been under the ownership of Mrs Elizabeth Sanger-Davies and her late husband, Andrew, who was Headmaster until 1984, since 1960 and has continued to be a successful family run enterprise for the last 52 years.
