The Languages Department is keen to maintain links with OEs who use languages in their work.
On 21 November 2016 we welcomed OE Michael Swann who works at the European External Action Service www.eeas.europa.eu where he holds a prestigious post on the ESDC (European Security and Defence College) Steering Committee with responsibility for the overall co-ordination and direction of ESDC training. Michael gave a lunchtime talk to a group of Sixth Formers about his career since leaving KES, provided some useful tips on establishing a career and took questions on his use of languages, the nature of his job and the situation since Brexit.
In November 2015, OE David Keites, who worked for De Beers as Deputy Worldwide Marketing Director, addressed all the 4th Years with an account of his career development since leaving King Edward's and was thoroughly impressed by the linguistic skills of our Linguistics Olympiad Club. David's visit was very dramatic as he arrived whilst the school DT Department was on fire, with the Fire Brigade in attendance and the whole school on the field!
In January 2015, OE Chris Ross, General Manager and Vice President for global sales in several IT/Software companies, gave talks to our 4th, 5th and Sixth Form classes on the role languages have played in his career.
In the Summer Term 2014, OE Andrew Sims, who works as an interpreter for the German Federal Ministry of the Economy, gave a talk to our Sixth Formers and offered an open invitation to them to visit the Ministry in Berlin. Emma Blackman made great use of this opportunity for a visit that Summer.
