Mandarin

In a changing world KES recognises the need for students to have the opportunity to study Mandarin.   We therefore offer the following courses:

a beginners' course (the AQA Mandarin Unit Award Scheme) to our Upper Sixth students during the Autumn and Spring Terms as part of the Foundation Studies programme

a further beginners' course (the AQA Mandarin Unit Award Scheme) to the Fifth Year and Lower Sixth after school on Tuesdays from 4.00pm to 5.00pm

a Lower School Mandarin Club on Tuesday lunchtimes for First to Third Years inclusive.  All students are taught by our part-time native speaker, Mrs Hong Deng.

Learning any language is an advantage when looking for a job because employers favour bilingual people. Chinese Mandarin, however, is fast becoming one of the most sought after languages by businesses due to the sheer quantity of Chinese – US and Chinese – European trade.

Apart from the obvious business and employment opportunities afforded to those who learn Chinese, students of Mandarin are also looked upon favourably when making university applications. Just like employers, universities see the dedication involved in learning such a challenging language. Here are some of our recent students:
