Sir Thomas Lake: Thomas Lake was born in Southampton in 1567. He attended King Edward’s as a day boy and proved perhaps the most distinguished Old Edwardian in history. He became ‘personal secretary’ to Sir Francis Walsingham, the Secretary of State. Walsingham brought Lake to the attention of Queen Elizabeth and he was appointed Clerk of the Signet in 1600. Lake became a favourite of the Queen, accompanying her on visits around the country and reading Latin to her.

Lake House in recent years

Last year's report by Will Torlot and Amelia Butterwick
"This year Lake House has continued to find success in all areas of the housing events, from the 1st Year through to 6th Form, and we adopted the motto of 'attendance is key' to help us aim for our best. With all the housing events, whether it be the team sports like rugby or netball, or the more individual events such as chess, we always strive to produce the number of people required and, more often than not, more than is needed, to make sure we are not at a disadvantage to the other houses. This means that we can always face an event head on and give it our full potential. Particular moments, such as Albert's run from his own 22 yard line to the opposition's try line, defeating all of the defence of the other team, to score a try in the closing minutes of a junior house rugby match, or watching 1st Year and 6th Formers coming together in 'Ready, steady, Cook' will remain in our memories. lake is a house that is about the process and team work, not just the goal, and we hope that Lake continues to have the same community spirit that makes it a success."

Lake House at present

Lake is an exciting House to be a part of at present! We work hard for each other and play a competitive role in the Allen Grant Trophy. Over recent years we have challenged regular holders of the trophy Capon and have endeavoured to do our best at all times. The key to Lake’s success is our excellent communication skills and a willingness to step in and help each other at all times.
