Admissions Procedure
Senior staff and Subject specialists interview Sixth Form candidates at the end of February/beginning of March. As a result of these interviews and on the basis of a candidate’s potential GCSE results either conditional or unconditional offers may be made.
A limited number of Bursaries are available. These are dependent upon the financial income of the family. There are also some non-means tested awards for students from the maintained sector who study either Chemistry or Biology.
Sixth Form Courses
Students choose to study 4 subjects at AS Level from the extensive range listed below and then either continue with all 4 subjects through to A2 Level or continue with just 3 of their chosen subjects.

Classical Civilisation; Classics (Latin/Greek); Computing; D & T;
Drama & Theatre Studies; Economics; Eng. Language; Eng. Literature;
French; German; Geography; History;
Mathematics; Music; Music Tech.; Physics;
Philosophy; Photography; Psychology; Spanish;
Sports Science.
Breadth of study is ensured through an organised programme of other courses, talks and discussions.
Normal Entry Requirements
6 GCSE passes at Grade B or above to include:
English Language
Mathematics
Subjects chosen for Advanced Level, or their equivalents.
Special Requirements
In addition to the normal entry requirements, there are further stipulations if the subjects listed below are chosen for Advanced Level.
Modern Languages: French, German and Spanish: a Grade A at GCSE is required for each language chosen. No more than two modern languages may be chosen.
Mathematics: A Grade A at GCSE is required.
Sciences:
(i) Candidates who have studied separate Sciences at GCSE and who wish to study one or more of Biology, Chemistry or Physics at Advanced Level must take the appropriate Higher Tier paper at GCSE and obtain at least a Grade B in each chosen subject.
(ii) Candidates choosing to study Biology without Chemistry as an accompanying subject, and who are taking separate sciences, will normally be expected to obtain at least Grade B in GCSE Biology and Grade A in GCSE Chemistry.
(iii) Candidates for one or more sciences at Advanced Level who are taking Additional Science at GCSE require Grades AA.
These requirements may be adjusted for individual candidates as a result of their other achievements, school reports and our admissions interviews.
For Further Information
The School holds a Sixth Form Information Evening for Year 11 pupils in October, when there are opportunities to discuss with Staff and current members of the School the extensive opportunities available in the Sixth Form.
A general Open Evening is held in November from 6.30pm to 9.00pm.
